The Homer Foundation is pleased to announce a new, streamlined grant application for public schools serving the southern Kenai Peninsula. Beginning this year, eligible schools and teachers can apply through a single online application for two educational enrichment funds that support innovative learning opportunities for local students.
As a community foundation, the Homer Foundation connects donors with the causes they care about most. Through our Field of Interest Funds, generous individuals and families establish charitable funds that continue supporting the community year after year. This new grant application provides a transparent and consistent process for schools to access these donor-directed educational resources while ensuring thoughtful stewardship of each fund.
Applicants will indicate which of the following funds they are applying to within the application.
The Forquer Seaton Public School Educational Enhancement Program supports enrichment opportunities that enhance learning experiences for students attending public schools on the southern Kenai Peninsula.
Priority is given to music enrichment programs serving K–8 students in rural public schools. In the absence of music-focused applications, funding may also support projects related to art, robotics, recreational equipment, gardening and farming, or technology.

If funding remains available, applications from West Homer Elementary, Fireweed Academy, Paul Banks Elementary, Homer Middle School, McNeil Canyon Elementary, and Ninilchik School may also be considered.
Approximately $2,000 is available for grants through this program this year.
The David and Mary Schroer Education Ignition Fund supports innovative classroom enrichment by providing funding for supplies, materials, and expenses associated with teacher-led educational projects.
This opportunity is open to all K–12 public school teachers in the Homer service area and encourages creative approaches that inspire student learning beyond the traditional classroom.
Approximately $2,000 is available for grants through this program this year.

On May 19, the Homer Foundation visited recent Quick Response Grant recipients in Seldovia and presented a scholarship to graduating senior Michael Geagel.
The Homer Foundation awarded 25 scholarships totaling $77,000 to local students this year through donor-supported endowed funds. Since 2000, the program has awarded more than $573,000 in scholarships, continuing to support students across the southern Kenai Peninsula in pursuing their educational and career goals.
Students in the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) program reviewed nonprofit applications and awarded $20,000 to local organizations supporting food security, housing, and early childhood services on the southern Kenai Peninsula. Funded by Robert and Meon Purcell, the program helps build youth leadership and community awareness.
