Life gets busy, but giving doesn’t have to be one more thing to remember. See how one donor’s simple $20 monthly gift has made a lasting impact over 20 years.

I’ll say it: It’s hard to stay consistent.
Meal prep, working out, car maintenance… life gets in the way.
That’s where systems come in.
Reminders on our phones tell us to take our supplements. A little light on the dashboard tells us it’s time for an oil change. Automatic payments make sure our bills get paid and our savings accounts keep growing. These systems take care of the mundane things that, when done consistently, add up to something better.
There’s something powerful about setting up a system that helps our future selves. A little bit saved each month can grow into a meaningful nest egg. A regular workout can become better health. And a small, automatic gift can become lasting support for the place we call home.
One of our longtime donors has been doing exactly that.
Let’s call her Jill.
Jill made her first gift to the Homer Foundation in 2006. A few years later, she set up an automatic monthly donation of $20.
Twenty dollars.
That’s about the price of a large bag of trail mix at Save-U-More. It’s not a life-changing amount of money on its own. But Jill kept giving that $20 month after month, year after year.
And those little gifts added up.
Over more than two decades, Jill has given more than $3,000 to support our community.
That’s the magic of consistency. You don’t have to make a huge gift to make a meaningful difference. You just have to start, and then make it easy to keep going.
An automatic monthly gift can be a simple way to support the causes you care about without having to remember to make a donation every month. Setting up a recurring gift with the Homer Foundation is easy:
Press “Donate,” choose your fund, select your “Recurring Donation Amount,” and set your frequency. That’s it. Your gift will continue automatically, so there’s one less thing to remember each month.
Maybe it’s $10. Maybe it’s $20. Maybe it’s $50. Whatever amount makes sense for you.
Set it up once, and let the system do the remembering.
Because $20 might not feel like much today. But $20 every month for 20 years? That becomes something significant.
Jill’s story is a wonderful reminder that small, steady acts of generosity can have a lasting impact.
If there’s a cause you care about, consider putting your giving on autopilot. Your future self, and your community, might thank you for it.
